Diversity, equal treatment & anti-discrimination

... is the motto of the Department for Diversity and Equality!

Discrimination takes place in many ways. It often manifests itself through racism, (sexual) harassment, discrimination or other forms of intolerance and unacceptance.

We strive to fight against it and make our university a tolerant, enlightened place where coexistence works for ALL.

In cooperation with the Arbeitskreis für Gleichbehandlung, the implementation is feasible, based on the legal requirements and possibilities anchored in the university law.

Counseling:

First and foremost, we want to advise you, whether it is because you are experiencing or have experienced some form of discrimination, feel that you have been treated unfairly, or have found yourself in an uncomfortable situation. Just as discrimination is very broad, so are the topics we can talk about.

Because there is still a lot of silence regarding discriminatory experiences, we need your help to implement the effort to build a safe environment at our university. Therefore, we ask you to share your experiences in order to better respond to abuses.

In this context, we would like to mention that everything you share will remain between us, which will strengthen trust and make it easier for you to share personal information. Of course, everything will be treated strictly confidential!

You are welcome to report incidents, your concerns etc. anonymously, if you do not want to discuss them personally, for which we have full understanding! You decide if and how you can be reached.

Please remember, if you have experienced any form of inappropriate treatment or interaction, such as sexual harassment, by one or more parties, whether while going out, during an exam, or in class, it is not unlikely that the person will not change that behavior as long as they keep getting away with it. The first step to ending such misbehavior is to stop silencing and accepting it.

Even if your experiences or concerns are not directly related to the university or Leoben, we can still advise and support you.

Lectures / Workshops / … :

How often did you hear or think statements like: "In this day and age, you are not allowed to do anything without fearing a report"? How often do you tolerate the misbehavior of others in order not to be ostracized or not to be considered "sensitive"? How often have you been unsure if what you've experienced has really crossed a line yet or if you're just overreacting?

How many times do you think you've probably acted in a discriminatory way even though that wasn't your intention?

Well, many of you may find these topics a bit overwhelming at first. For this reason, in addition to taking action against the misconduct that has already happened, we also want to work preventively against discriminatory behavior and assaults.

Through projects, lectures and workshops we want to create awareness and give you certain tools and soft skills.

Cooperations:

In order to provide you with the best possible advice and assistance, we are constantly building a pool of collaborations with external partners who specialize in different areas.

You can find them below.

Collaboration / making a difference:

We are also always grateful for ideas, suggestions and proposals for improvement.

Have you noticed certain weaknesses at the university itself or in your environment? Which topics are close to your heart and what would you like to learn more about? Have you heard about lecturers, speakers, etc. that you find particularly good and interesting?

Feel free to write us personally or anonymously!

Since the focus was created for you students, you are also welcome to build and refine it together with us according to your interests!

Mag. Kamil Kaminski BA, project partner of the psychological student counseling, is also involved in the area of diversity, discrimination and bullying with a focus on identity exploration and identity strengthening. Therefore, we would like to highlight him at this point for these topics.

He can also be helpful when it comes to finding suitable offers in the therapeutic field too.

Communities

elisabeth stoecker

Halle at all!

My name is Elisabeth Ströcker and I have been studying at the University of Leoben since 2014. As in every city and at every university, there are also some people from the LGBTQ* community here. However, especially in Leoben it is difficult to find connections and exchange ideas. Since I started my studies, I have never heard of an LGBTQ* community in Leoben. We want to change that now! We want to establish a platform that can give LGBTQ*'s in Leoben the feeling of belonging, to organize common events and where we can support each other in all matters.

Of course everyone is welcome, you don't have to be queer to support the community.

To get in touch with us without obligation, just follow this WhatsApp link WhatsApp-Link, or send a message to this email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
