Structure of ÖH Leoben

General

As the Austrian Student Union, we represent the legal interests of all students in Austria. The ÖH is a public corporation and all students in Austria are required to be members. So each and every one of you is a member of the ÖH!

The ÖH is financed from the membership fees (ÖH fee) and funds from the BMWFW and the universities, which are granted to the ÖH by law.

The ÖH here in Leoben is divided into different levels, which have different functions.

University Representation (UV)

The University Representation (UV) is the representation of the students at the Montanuniversität. The UV consists of 9 mandataries. These elect the chairmanship team and the speakers of the Leoben university representation. The other tasks of the UV are the handling of applications for the purposes of the students, resolutions on the annual budget, the annual financial statements and individual projects that exceed a certain financial framework, as well as sending people to the collegiate bodies of the university, such as the Senate or Curriculum committees.

At least two meetings of the UV take place per semester. These are accessible to the public or via a live stream. The university representatives have their own statutes. In the statutes, among other things, the course of the meetings and the individual presentations are precisely defined.

The chairing team is not only responsible for managing the UV, but is primarily responsible for managing the entire student body and coordinating our 10 departments. You can find out exactly what the activities of our presentations look like in the presentations!

Student representative

The student representative represents the students in their own field of study. Depending on the size of the field of study, it consists of 3 or 5 members who are directly elected. You are the direct point of contact for study-specific questions. Its core task is to represent the students in a particular field of study in relation to the relevant departments and the lecturers of the courses.

The student members in curriculum, appointment and habilitation commissions are sent by the UV at the suggestion of the student representatives. In addition, they ensure good cohesion in their own field of study and regularly organize lectures and round tables with people from their own field. ÖH National Representation (BV)

The ÖH National Representation is the nationwide representation of students vis-à-vis the government and other organizations. It is made up of 55 mandataries who elect the chairpersons and speakers of the ÖH national representation. The ÖH national representation is elected every two years at the ÖH election by means of a list vote.

ÖH elections

The ÖH elections take place every two years. All students who have paid the ÖH fee on time are entitled to vote. The ÖH national representation, the university representation and the student representation are elected. So you get three ballot papers. Lists (i.e. parliamentary groups) can be selected for the ÖH-BV and the UV; persons are directly elected in the student representatives.

The next ÖH elections will take place in 2023.
