Am 21.9. erschien das Debutalbum der Band Edmund mit dem Titel „Freindschoft“ auf Karmarama/Sony. Das Album chartete auf Platz 4 der österreichischen Albumcharts und hielt sich seitdem für 6 Wochen. Eine wunderschöne Erfolgs-Story der zwei Austropop-Musiker Markus Kadensky und Roman Messner, die so ihresgleichen sucht und dabei gerade erst ganz am Anfang steht. Millionen Plays auf Youtube für eine Band, die noch kein Album veröffentlicht hat? Eine bereits jetzt fast ausverkaufte Albumreleaseshow in der Szene Wien? Edmund? Wer?
Die österreichischen Künstler, die Millionen Plays auf Videos haben, lässt sich fast an einer Hand abzählen: Wanda, Bilderbuch, Parov Stelar, Seiler & Speer, Pizzera & Jaus, Ina Regen - und - Edmund. Kaum zu glauben, aber die junge Austropop Formation schafft es ohne großes Radio Airplay auf ihren Song "Freindschoft" fast 3 Million Youtube Plays zu erreichen. Auch die weiteren beiden Videos „Rondstah“ und „Lebmsgfühl“ haben gemeinsam schon eine dreiviertel Million Plays.
Aber was macht den Erfolg von Edmund aus? Roman und Markus schreiben wunderschöne zweistimmige Mundartsongs aus dem Bauch heraus, vereinen darin das Beste des alten Austropop mit aktuellem Songwriting und treffen damit voll ins Schwarze. Sie singen in „Freindschoft“ über die wichtigste Konstante in ihrem Leben. Der Song „Zam oid wern“ ist eine Hymne darauf, sein Leben mit einem einzigartigen Partner zu verbringen. Sie drücken humoristisch in „Lebmsgfüh“ ihren Unmut über den 12 Stunden Tag aus und meinen, ein E-Card Urlaub sei doch viel feiner. „Büdl an da Wand“ handelt von einer gescheiterten Beziehung und arbeitet diese mit einem Augenzwinkern auf. „Prinzessin“ beschreibt die Liebe von einem Vater zu seiner Tochter. Das Album dreht sich ums Scheitern, ums Wiederaufstehen, und von Beziehungen, die nicht immer so einfach sind, wie man es sich wünschen würde.
Edmund nehmen sich kein Blatt vor den Mund und drücken Dinge oft sehr direkt und mit einer präzisen Sprache aus. Das dürfte auch genau das sein, was ihre Fans so an ihnen lieben, sie sprechen ihnen aus der Seele. Und mal ganz ehrlich, wer den Namen von Edmund „Mundl“ Sackbauer als Bandname wählt, den kann man eigentlich nur mögen.

Hard to believe, but the young Austropop formation manages to achieve almost 3 million Youtube plays on their song "Freindschoft" without a big radio airplay. The other two videos "Rondstah" and "Lebmsgfühl" already have a total of three quarters of a million plays.
But what makes Edmund's success? Roman and Markus write beautiful two-part mouth-song songs out of their guts, combining the best of old Austropop with the latest songwriting and thus hit the bull's eye. They sing in "Freindschoft" about the most important constant in their lives. The song "Zam oid wern" is a hymn to spend your life with a unique partner. They humorously express in "Lebmsgfüh" their displeasure over the 12 hours a day and think that an e-card holiday is much finer.
